Kim Ji-Young

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study wa

s to investigate menopausal symptoms in premenopausal patients with breast cancer undergoing endocrine therapy. Methods: The subjects were 98 patients with breast cancer undergoing endocrine therapy after surgery. The structured questionnaires were used as survey tool. For the menopausal symptoms, Korean version of Menopause Rating Scale developed by Heinemann et al.(2003) was used. The collected data were processed using SPSS 23.0 program to determine real number, percentage, mean and standard deviation of each variable. The difference in menopausal symptoms by general and disease-specific characteristics were analyzed using t-test and ANOVA and Tukey HSD was used in post-hoc test.

Results: The mean score of subjects¡¯ menopausal symptom was 18.44¡¾8.02 point, corresponding to severe category and 90.8%(n=89) were suffering from severe menopausal symptoms. The menopausal symptoms of subjects were found to be significantly different by disease stage (F=4.17, p=.008), chemotherapy(t=-3.27, p=.001), and current menstruation status(F=6.85, p=.002).

Conclusion: In summary, these results showed that the premenopausal breast cancer patients undergoing endocrine therapy have severe menopausal symptom and the majority have symptoms over severe severity. It is considered that the active intervention to reduce menopausal symptoms are needed in premenopausal patients with breast cancer undergoing endocrine therapy.
